I recently had an exciting day at Waterstones in Colchester.
After some serious negotiations with the manager, she agreed to give me a table in the shop, which was really kind of her.
I was extremely nervous - what would people think - was it a cheek, a local writer having the presumption to do a book signing.
But I started chatting to people and everyone was really nice and interested in the writing and publishing process.
The highlight was speaking to a Doctor of English at Suffolk University, who now wants me to talk to her students.
I started selling at 10am and by 2pm I had sold out - I was the top seller in Colchester that day with over 3 times as many sales as anyone else - I think the second place was Eleanor Oliphant - what a day 🙂

So excited to read your book. I was tagged on a FB posting to post books I’ve read for 7 days to highlight literacy. I saw Eleanor Oliphant on a friends post, so looked it up & then saw your book on amazon as a suggestion. More intrigued to read yours. I have so many ideas for books and started writing 10 years ago but never past chapter 1. Maybe you’ll inspire me. Well done you x

Hi
Thanks so much for writing – lovely to hear from you and thanks for buying the book. I hope it inspires you. I just couldn’t get going with a novel for ages either – redundancy gave me more time. Cold Sunflowers has done really well – top 50 in the US for a while – when you do write your book -my biggest tip would be get a good editor and give me a shout if you need help getting it on Amazon etc – so many people helped me it’s nice to return the favour
Anyway thanks again and best of luck with your words – Mark
